The Austrian composer, arranger, singer and pianist Ursula Reicher recently released her new CD Welcome to Dark Matter. I had the honor and pleasure of playing saxophone and clarinet in her ensemble Globular Cluster on it.

The music was recorded in August 2021 in Graz at Audiotope Studio and was released on the Munich label IAN Records as CD and Blue Ray at the end of September. Vinyl is also available on Ursula Reicher’s website.

More information

With the Globular Cluster, Ursula Reicher would like to music, that she has written especially for the combination of her contemporary big band, her award-winning The Void Quintet and her as a solo singer and pianist.

The big band actually emerged from the Graz Composers Orchestra; the fusion with The Void Quintet became the Globular Cluster.

The main topic of her compositions is death and how we deal with the dying of people, which are close to us. From this she has created a 9-piece concept album, which is intended to take the listener on a journey of reflection of their own lives.

The first 8 arrangement are based on the phases of grief of the researcher Kübler-Ross. The last track is an arrangement of a Ben Harper song.
In addition, Ursula Reicher gives with self-written lyrics another special depth of content and another dimension of musical expression. On the album Welcome to Dark Matter she wants to give space to her different musical influences and therefore th album is not a traditional Jazz Big Band Album. Elements from classical, rock and electronic music will appear as well as influences from Darkpop.
